Staying at a park would have been better rather than staying at The Park Hotel, Kolkata

I stayed at Park Hotel in June 2011, and it was one of my worst 5 star hotel experiences.

I had done booking under advance purchase offer through hotels.com site which was very convenient. In the booking form I had mentioned my preferences like a queen bed.

On checking in at the hotel, the front office 1st of all took more than 10 mins to assign me a room. To my horror when i was given the (Deluxe room), it was a twin bed with a shaft view. I promptly asked the Front desk to change it. On this they asked me to wait for 10 mins.
While waiting in the room, i thought of having a coffee, to my surprise there was only 1 cup in the room, so I asked for another, which never came. Next was the Tea Coffee maker, again this too was not working and I again had to call for house keeping which took another 10 mins. While all this was happening it was around 25 mins since i requested the room change. I called front desk again and still i was asked to wait for another 15-20 mins. After full 45 mins i was assigned another room.

By the way, the next room was ok (not 5 star standards) but even this room had only 1 coffee mug. When i requested another i did not come ever.

In the evening we had to go for a friend’s wedding and we came back by midnight for change, as we were planning to go again. We asked our (personal) driver to wait in hotel parking while we went and come back. When we came back and requested the in charge their to call our driver over the PA system, he refused and said, your driver is standing on the other side of the road. I went out and came back but didn’t find him and then walked to the basement of the hotel and he was waiting there. I didn’t understand the inability of using the PA system.

We came back around 2 in the night and went to sleep around 3. Since we had a late evening flight to catch, we decided to sleep a bit longer, but to my utter surprise & horror, there was a loud noise of music and banging which started from 8.30 am onwards. We got a rude shock and woke up. We immediately called the Front desk and they assured us that they will check it.

After this we decided to go for breakfast which was included in my booking. (I have a confirmation). The spread was ok and we had breakfast. When we stood up to go back to our room, we were advised to settle the bill. I very politely told the manager to check with reception that my BF is included in the tariff. He did check but the reception again didn’t have this information. I told the manager to add it to my room and I will clear it while checking out.

After going back to my room, i called up hotels.com customer service and they confirmed that my booking was with breakfast, they then called the park and then the matter was resolved.

We came back to room around 10 and that loud noise had become more louder and bolder. I again called Front desk and they again assured me it will be checked and stopped. After waiting for another 30 mins or so I again called the front desk and to my horror they told me that they dont have any info of the noise.

I lost it then and told them what kind of hotel is this and i am facing issues here since my checking. The duty manager then came to our room and was very apologetic and even offered to change the room. For me it was useless at this stage as i had only 1 hour left to check out. The guy admitted that the noise problem was a issue in these rooms as below our room was their main banquet hall (1st floor).

The reason i am writing this review is to save some fellow travelers from the harassment through which I went through.
